Redding Record Searchlight, Politics & Death

At a recent city wide so called Safe City Project , with its leader April LaFrance , and interesting admonition was made, and Tweeted by a Redding Record Searchlight Reporter.

With the Good News Rescue Mission being the ONLY nightime rescue mission shelter in all of Redding and Shasta County California this fact, if reported... this crucial Tweet... if turned into a news story would rally the generous and caring community Redding has become, and positive steps surely would be taken that would change the dynamics of homelessness in our community, and quite possibly SAVE LIVES.

Not only that, If the facts and truth were released, to be ticketed by Redding Police Chief Robert Paoletti and his department for homeless sleeping now would be more than ever a very real violation of homeless persons civil and constitutional rights.

A situation here in Redding already determined to be cruel and unusual punishment in other California cities  by a Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Needless to say, in those cities positive changes were made, services added, lives saved....

Indeed one would think the Record Searchlight  /  Redding.com as a whole would be interested in the health, safety, and well being of our local homeless families, children, and veterans.

With temperatures that can dip to single digits in the winter here you would like to believe there is a news reporter somehow, somewhere with the courage and compassion to report on this crucial Tweet information.

Tweet information that Redding California's desperate homeless have long been painfully aware...

Dangerous Corruption in Local Redding California News Media Outlets ?

Its shocking that “Redding’s Good News Rescue Mission turned away 500 people last year.”

Especially since City Council member has heard threats of baseball bats against homeless and their camps.

Redding California city council person Missy McArthur receives messages from vigilantes wanting to go out into the homeless camps and send them a message with baseball bats.

Im getting calls, emails, and on – the street comments about this No.1 issue. Things like : “Let’s take some bats and show transients we don’t want them here.”

How does Redding California Police Chief Robert Paoletti respond ?

Redding Police release map!

Seems a police and city official created dynamic hardly conducive to the health, safety, and well being of our local homeless men and women, as well as the growing numbers of our homeless families, children, and veterans.

And the worst part of all is other than a tweet from a so called ” SafeCity ” meeting by a relatively new reporter who momentarily forgot her marching orders no local news media would have ever reported it.

And its now clear to me the reporters of the multiple Safe City Record Searchlight series ad nauseam are deeply in the pockets of the homeless hatred crowd and have become nothing more than the mouth piece for Redding City Officials, and its ever increasing militaristic, seems to answer to nobody police chief.

Sure, like every year, homeless will die on the streets of Redding this winter from the extreme cold.

And you and other local news media outlets will do the usual tragic annual we gotta do something about this stories…

Has the so called “Safe City founder addressed this?

Noooo

Has our local news media addressed it ?

Redding Record Searchlight - Redding .com,  KRCR TV Channel 7 News, Action News Now ?

Noooo

Nor will you report on what could very possibly put an end to many of these needless tragedies if you would only stop the cover up and report the facts as you claim.

I quote your Tweet and admission from  Record Searchlight reporter Katie Gillespie,

That “Redding’s Good News Rescue Mission turned away 500 people last year.”

Redding and Shasta Counties ONLY night time homeless shelter.

"Redding's Good News Rescue Mission turned away 500 people last year."

Shocking news from the Good News Rescue Mission, Redding and Shasta Counties ONLY night time homeless shelter.

Reported at a recent town hall safety meeting in a Tweet by Record Searchlight / Redding .com News Reporter Katie Gillespie

To be ticketed by Shasta County or Redding Police for homeless sleeping now seems more than ever a very real violation of homeless persons Civil and Constitutional rights

'They have no place': Rousted, relocated, Redding's homeless have few choices.

"As the county's only shelter, the mission is scarcely equipped to handle its homeless population, said Community Relations Director Ken White.

"We're feeling extraordinarily overwhelmed by the amount of services needed by people in the community," he said. "If the economy worsens, or even stays as it's been, that could be a very at-risk population as a community I don't feel like we're very prepared to service at this point."

The mission has only about 120 beds, he said, but because staff members try to help everyone they can, up to 70 extra guests at a time often sleep on the chapel floor.

"There's a huge need," he said.

And the mission's 30-day time limit means it's hardly a solution to Redding's homelessness situation, he said".

Redding Police Officers take back South City Park , How about give back the restrooms?

Redding Mayor Rick Bosetti, Redding Police, and Record Searchlight Photographer at the take back the park event.

Many caring and compassionate individuals feel that local media has been creating as of late a dynamic that have folks hating the people who are being oppressed in our community and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.

The Redding Police Officers Association who wants the community to take back South City Park from the homeless and transients who use it daily and give it back to families, hosted  a daylong event Saturday that was marred by controversy, injury, and a lack of public attendance.

One must ask themselves, where do folks relieve themselves at this event, as the only public restroom was locked up tight and unusable for both event goers and homeless alike, a taste of what it is like in much of the downtown Redding area.

Much has been spoken of in the Redding area of the sex trade, and teen girls being forced to provide sex for pimps in the Redding California community. There are approximately 1.7 million homeless teens in the U.S. Often times young vulnerable populations of homeless teens can be found and targeted by these pimps in exactly where the Redding Police Officers Association wants to shoo them away from .... South City Park.

As a community, do we want to take back the park back from them? Is that the best we can do ?

Creating and spinning the dynamics of fear, unwarranted generalizations, and pushing the demonization of a population with no voice of their own spiritually weakens and degrades the community at large.

Perhaps the Redding City council and Police Department needs to rethink taking back anything from the homeless including their tents, sleeping bags and other personal possessions and survival gear and consider returning what you have taken for years now that may very well assist in their coming out of homelessness... Their dignity

Can't you smell that smell ?

It should be of no surprise to the dozens of Redding California County and City workers that make their way to the downtown Yuba Street post office every work day that Redding has ranked so low as a city in regard to its people and their well being.

I suppose one can easily turn their head and avoid the oozing stains of blatant disregard that mar the sidewalks, or avoid the looks of elderly homeless who have been beaten and rolled by juvenile homeless heroine addicts desperate for another fix.

Unable to visually turn your head , a question not so easy to avoid as you approach the post office must assault your senses to be sure.

Oooooh  that smell...

With Record Searchlight bloggers writing about the halcyon days of the long gone McColl's Dairy or whimsical songs of what's to love of Redding, one must as a question.

Can't you smell that smell?

From winter days of years past our chronic downtown homeless suffer from frost bite that has festered  into something far more insidious. Several of them now have to remove the insect offspring that ghoulishly feast and deposit on the open wounds of our city... and their bodies.

From these visual and olfactory horrors Global Homeless Day was born.

Food , Tents, Sleeping bags and Tarps will be collected May 5th from 3 to 7 pm at Caldwell park. Just drive up and honk and someone will graciously accept your compassionate donations.

To be sure those homeless languishing  downtown may look City and County officials as well as downtown non profits managers in the eye as you pass by and wonder why you cant smell the putrid flesh and gangrene as well,

The smell of death that surrounds you...
